The Whistle Test tracks come from a very clean vinyl bootleg 7". Sound quality is excellent and the performances are complete; I have even restored the beginning of First and Last and Always.

As a bonus I've included video footage of the Whistle Test performance. Because it came with very muffled sound, I have synched the images up with the excellent audio recordings from the bootleg 7" - to very good effect, I might add. The picture quality is great, too (courtesy of Solitude - many thanks, P.!), though occasionally there's some static and picture travelling (but never do sound & vision go out of synch). Also, the beginnings of both tracks and the end of Marian are truncated. Still, there's plenty left to give you a fine impression of the band in full action! See screenshots.

Bay 63 - pro shot ... but appalling quality because it's gone too many generations.  Celebrate is particularly bad with a very unstable picture in parts, A Deeper Blue isn't as bad.  Someone is bound to have it in better quality than this.

I never knew the date or venue of any of the live footage but there's a clip of one of the songs on youtube captioned "Saturday 14th May 1983, Riley Smith Hall, Leeds University" so I'm assuming that's correct.  It definitely fits in with my original guess of "early'83" anyway.  The guy I got this from had asked a member of the band if they knew what the date or venue was only to be told "No idea. I didn't even know the video existed."

The live footage comes from 2 different shows, the undated one shot with a single camera, the other being a multi-camera job, or maybe just 2 cameras if they kept moving into different positions.

The Saturday Superstore clip wasn't part of the original tape, I added that from another tape.

The Sisters of Mercy celebrate today their 30th anniversary! Here's a gift for all of you that(like me)can't be in Leeds today for the celebration. This is the playback performance of TSOM on german TV in 1985, with an image quality that is lightyears away from any source avaiable until now. It's a DVD, image 4:3 Letterbox, so to make it fit on your 16:9 LCDs you'll have to use the zoom function. If you watch it on VLC player, use the crop function to 16:9.
