"Recorded by a friend whose recordings were usually a bit disappointing quality wise, this one thankfully is the exception. Probably a good 8/10. Also, this was a spectacularly good gig.

At the time The Academy was my local venue being only a couple of 100 yards from my bedsit. I wish I had the promotional poster for this gig as they were listed as the Sisters of Mersey. Eldritch mentions this in a rare spoken moment on the tape.

This is the complete recording, I have edited nothing other than taking a spike off the beginning when the recorder was turned on and adding a fade at the end. I'm not sure if they played a short set because they came on early, the main band being an appalling local New Romantic crowd. Their early showtime certainly surprised the taper as the tape starts over the drum intro to Alice."

"Here's a classic vinyl Sisters bootleg album, featuring (a repeat of) an 1981 concert from Leeds, the ABBA-cover from the Danceteria in NYC '84 and part of a fantastic audience recording of the band playing in Münster during the 1983 Europe tour.
Because everybody's probably sick and tired of always hearing the same AUD-recording of Gimme x3 from NYC, I've also added the rarer SBD-recording of the same song from Detroit '84. This led me to add two further rarities: a very good recording of Some Kind of Stranger from the Lyceum '85 (a much better recording than available on the better known vinyl 2LP of the same gig) and a SBD-recording (I think) of the band doing a short rendition of Stairway to Heaven in Blackburn '85 (this time with AE on vocals). All vinyl sources have been cleaned up."

It's quite hilarious in fact, it's in playback and Eldritch is backed by a stand-in band that look completely out of synch. The mortal blow is that it has a human drummer... Doktor Avalanche was on vacations for sure. Complete with strobe effects on the image and ending with sound fade outs in the middle of a phase. Enjoy it.

The Sisters of Mercy - Mechanised South America Tour - 2009 (Sketchbook)

OK, so let me tell you what this is.

.

I was really curious to listen to the recordings of the South American concerts by the Sisters, search a little bit, asked some traders, but nobody that I know has them. I'm pretty sure they exist, but for now they're not available. So, using a tool that DocSommer indicated me, I went searching YouTube for videos with decent sound to transfer them to MP3.

Let me tell you, that it's a bitch, searching all the clips (most of them without the name of the song) to try to get as much songs that are listenable and were complete, from each concert.

After completion, and only one concert has the complete setlist (because I broke the rule of the complete songs), I listened to it and actually enjoyed it!

Of course it looks like a Dadaistic text, such are the changes of sound quality and volume.

I call them sketchbook versions because they're a good teaser for when a proper recording surfaces.

Worth listening, if only to hear the overwelming joy of the crowd (imagine waiting 20 years or more for one Sisters concert, like in Argentina and Peru!!!), that goes mad almost on the entire time (in all the concerts), but also because the band is absolutely at it's Peek and Andrew is singing like I haven't hear for some time.

Thank to everybody that uploaded their videos on YouTube, you're too many to mention individually! But you know who you are.

Hope you enjoy it, I surely don't feel I wasted my time on this pet project.

The Sisters of Mercy - X-Tra, Zurich, Switzerland - 29.04.2009 (Flac)

This excellent recording was made by Sisterstekland, who was kind enough to let me share it. It's actually a new mix, that sounds better than the previous one. The vocals are super clear and the band gives a very good performance, there are some small fluctuations in sound, because the taper was also video recording the concert (some of the images are in the 2009 tour video) and moved position. There are two songs missing from the setlist, Flood II and This Corrosion, that were not recorded. During Train/Detonation Blvd you can hear a security guy demanding that the taper erase the video recording, and getting tricked to accept the battery instead, as any good taper, Sisterstekland had another.:) In FLAC. The Sisters of Mercy - Festival Marés Vivas, Vila Nova de Gaia - 17.07.2008 (Flac)

The concert that made a lot of fans fear for the worst... I was there with my friends and for 15 days we were still discussing what happened...

During Flood II you can hear that mostly Andrew mumbles instead of singing, making this one of the worst versions of the song I ever heard... Followed by:

Apparently a technical problem with Andrew's mic turned This Corrosion into a miserable affair with only the instruments and the background voices, very sad indeed. Andrew disappeared in the smoke only to return for the last verses of the song. The general opinion on the ground was that he had lost his voice or didn't give a damn about singing the lyrics anymore. The fact that the entire band seemed lost after that and all the songs were rushed didn't help also.

Peter Murphy closed the night with a brilliant performance afterwards, wich made things even worse and left a bad taste in the mouth of every Sisters fan. In defence of the band we can state that this was the first concert of 2008 after a break of several months and soon after they played a stonking gig in Suikerrock Festival.

Here's a DVD compilation of clips from the Sisters (1.4 G). This is not a TVrip nor a VHSrip from "Shot", it's taken from the versions distributed by WEA to promote the band, including the start clocks. The quality is the best I could find, since there's no digital remasterings of these. Maybe when they make a 20th anniversay re-issue of "Overbombing" they remember to include a DVD with the clips...

This is by no means the complete videography, since is missing "Body and Soul", "1959", "Dr Jeep", "Temple of Love 1992" and "Under the Gun".

The Sisters of Mercy - Floodland Demos (Flac)

This demos of the "Floodland" album are very stripped down and raw versions of songs you all know. The sound is closer to the Sisterhood than the finished album, and this document serves as the missing link between the two of them. Of special interest is the long instrumental song "Untitled", wich is not the same as the "Untitled" on the Dominion EP, and contains some parts that would became the basis for "I Was Wrong", featured in the Sisters next album "Vision Thing". The "This Corrosion" demo was actually done in other sessions, still with the Sisterhood, so it's not here, I'll leave that for another post.

A must listen for any Sisters fan. It deserves to be presented in .flac, so that's the format.

"This and the Whistle Test TV show, are the final two performances of founding member and original guitar player, Gary Marx, with The Sisters of Mercy. The final concert he played was the last night of the UK tour, on April 1st, 1985, at the Top Rank Suite in Brighton. The next day, he performed his very last rite in front of the BBC TV cameras for the Whistle Test, the band turning in rousing renditions of two songs from their first LP.

This recording of the Brighton concert is a flawed, but nevertheless enjoyable soundboard recording taken from discs 2 & 3 of the triple vinyl bootleg set, "Through The Years". I've cleaned it up thoroughly, but here and there some surface noise remains. I chose not to go to extremes in trying to get rid of the extraneous noises, lest I should compromise the sound quality of the actual recording. There's a sample from "Train" that should give you a good idea of what to expect. The performance is excellent throughout, with particular highlights being Amphetamine Logic, the trip down Memory Lane with Floorshow/Alice/Body Electric completely seguing into one another, and the juggernaut ride through Sister Ray/Ghostrider/Louie Louie (too bad the sound quality of the final encore is inferior to the rest of the gig - but still!!! Too bad it's hard to make out whether Gary Marx really did throw his Anaconda-guitar to the stage standing on top of the stacks...)"

Here is the recording of the Lisbon concert, two days ago. It was an excellent concert, light years of distance of the last two gigs the Sisters gave in Portugal. If you were not there, now you can hear what you've missed. The photos are from portalgotico.com, they've some more there and an interview coming soon, go and check them.

It's an audience recording made with a Sony MD - MZ-R91, using a Sony ECM-MS907 stereo mic. The MP3 version is equalized in Final Cut Pro in .aiff format and converted to MP3 320 with FairStars Audio Converter 1.73. The WAV version is mixed in Protools by 667, our thanks to him. It was made by the staff of the Dark Circle Room, we think its a very cool recording, but any comments about the quality are most welcome.

Due to technical problems with the MD the first three songs were not recorded in good conditions, "Ribbons" is beyond repair and "Train / Detonation Blvd" is incomplete.

The Sisters of Mercy - Carmina Burana

 Old vinyl bootleg. The main interest are the songs recorded live at The Brixton Ace and Amsterdam, since the other live versions are from the Gary Marx Tape. They added some demos, including the Sisters version of "Garden of Delight". All the recordings have very good sound since they're soundboard.
